Singapore Airlines is unveiling its next-generation long-haul cabins in Singapore this week, the first meaningful redesign of its First and Business Class in almost two decades, and Starlink sits at the centre of the package. The airline’s 21 October press release, as summarised by The Milelion, says the refitted Airbus A350-900s carrying those cabins will also fly with a new KrisWorld entertainment system and SpaceX’s low Earth orbit broadband from early 2027.

Sources differ on the exact reveal date. Aviation A2Z says the airline locked in 6 November 2026 through a YouTube video, one day before a separate event for elite frequent flyers, while The Aviation Hub gives the cabin reveal as 7 November 2026.

Key facts

  • Starlink rolls out progressively from early 2027 on the A380, A350-900 long-haul and A350-900ULR fleets — 53 aircraft in total, according to The Aviation Hub citing AeroTime.
  • Wi-Fi is complimentary and unlimited in Suites, First and Business, and free for PPS Club members and any KrisFlyer member in Premium Economy or Economy, Airline Ratings reports.
  • The cabin retrofit itself covers 34 A350-900LH and seven A350-900ULR aircraft, 41 in all, inside what The Aviation Hub describes as an SG$1.1 billion (about US$860 million) investment programme.
  • The first refitted A350-900LH is due back in service in the first quarter of 2027, per Aviation A2Z.
  • Starlink is also confirmed for the future Boeing 777X fleet, with no date attached.

What is still unknown about the service

None of the four outlets reporting the plan gives an expected throughput figure, a data cap or a session length for the Starlink installation, and neither SpaceX nor Singapore Airlines has independently published performance or coverage detail for it — every claim here is routed through aviation outlets working from the airline’s announcement, which caps how firmly the Starlink-specific numbers can be stated.

On price, the structure is clear in the premium cabins and effectively free elsewhere, because KrisFlyer membership carries no joining fee; what has not been published is any paid tier for Premium Economy or Economy passengers who do not hold an account. On availability, Aviation A2Z says no launch route has been named and points to London and Sydney as the likeliest candidates, with Sydney practical because a single aircraft can cover the round trip.

Why it matters

The Aviation Hub argues that the convergence of several carriers on the same provider in the same year suggests low Earth orbit satellite internet is becoming a baseline expectation for premium travel rather than a point of differentiation. It cites One Mile at a Time reporting that EL AL, Israel’s national airline, has also committed to fleet-wide Starlink from 2027, expected to be free for passengers. Elsewhere, KLM has committed to free Starlink on long-haul flights from 2027, and Air Tahiti Nui plans free Starlink across its entire fleet in 2027.

Airline Ratings, which runs airline rating and awards programmes, says connectivity has become an increasingly important assessment point in its awards because passengers now expect to stay connected in the air as easily as they do on the ground.

The hardware gap in economy

The sharpest point of contention is what Premium Economy and Economy passengers actually get. The Milelion highlights a single line in the press release stating that existing seats in those cabins on these A350-900s “will be refreshed”, which it reads as new upholstery and little more: no 4K screens, no Bluetooth audio and no USB-C.

Aviation A2Z reports the same limitation, saying those features will instead arrive with the Boeing 777-9. Airline Ratings, however, states that every seat on the 777-9 and the retrofitted A350 cabins will have a USB-C port. The sources are in direct conflict on that detail.

The Milelion links the omission back to Starlink itself. With high-speed Wi-Fi onboard, it writes, passengers will be streaming and working on their devices more than ever, and it anticipates far more competition for power outlets in Economy, where it puts the seat-to-outlet ratio at 3:2 and notes power banks are not allowed for onboard use. Offering fast Wi-Fi without modern charging, it argues, solves one problem and creates another.

What the new KrisWorld brings

Airline Ratings details 4K touchscreens across the new cabins, reaching 32 inches in First Class. Bluetooth pairing is limited to Business on the retrofitted A350-900LH and to First and Business on the ULR, while the 777-9 gets it in every cabin; Economy keeps wired earphones. KrisFlyer log-in unlocks tailored recommendations and resumes a show across flights — a personalisation push that echoes how United has started pushing personal streaming accounts onto Starlink-equipped seatback screens.

Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President Customer Experience at Singapore Airlines, told Future Travel Experience, as quoted by The Aviation Hub: “Our customers told us that they wanted more choice and flexibility in how they spend their time onboard, as well as entertainment and connectivity that fit more naturally into their journey.”

Background and open questions

Aviation A2Z notes the long-haul First and Business seats being replaced date to July 2013 on the Boeing 777-300ER and are an incremental update of a 2006 design, and that the airline’s last major cabin launch came in November 2017.

The Milelion reports the Boeing 777-9 is running seven years behind schedule, with first deliveries still expected in 2027; two of Singapore Airlines’ 777-9s have begun test flights, but the carrier is not the launch customer. The Aviation Hub says no precise retrofit schedule has been published beyond “progressively from 2027”, and that it is unclear whether the A380 fleet will get the new KrisWorld hardware or only Starlink.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Singapore Airlines aircraft are excluded from the Starlink rollout?

The Aviation Hub, citing AeroTime, says the part of the A350-900 fleet configured for regional routes is not included at this stage, leaving the A380, A350-900 long-haul and A350-900ULR fleets as the aircraft covered from early 2027.

Will the ultra-long-range A350s be retrofitted on the same timeline as the long-haul jets?

The Milelion reports the A350-900ULR schedule is still uncertain and likely to run longer, because Singapore Airlines is installing a brand-new First Class cabin on that variant rather than reworking an existing one.

How many seats change on the ultra-long-range A350s?

Aviation A2Z reports the A350-900ULR loses 36 Premium Economy seats, gains three Business Class seats and adds four First Class seats, ending up with 29 fewer seats overall. It says the change appears to address weak Premium Economy demand on US flights, where fares were often only slightly above Economy. The A350-900LH keeps its Business and Premium Economy counts and gains five Economy seats.

What content does the new KrisWorld system carry?

Airline Ratings says the library grows to more than 2,500 options refreshed monthly, with content from Apple TV, BBC, CNA, HBO Max, iQIYI and Paramount+, plus BBC News and Sport 24 as live channels.
