Musk Says Starlink Can Now Deliver 10 Gbps Anywhere on Earth

Elon Musk said SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet network can now provide reliable 10 gigabit-per-second upload and download connectivity anywhere in the world, in a post on X quoted by Yahoo Finance and Benzinga in a report published on 11 July 2026. The outlet said the claim marks a step in Starlink’s push from consumer broadband towards high-capacity global data service, and that it came as SpaceX raised prices in some higher-end markets.

Key facts

  • Musk wrote on X that Starlink can now provide reliable 10 Gbps symmetric send/receive connectivity anywhere in the world, according to Yahoo Finance and Benzinga.
  • He was quoting a Starlink post that said the company had delivered peak speeds of up to 10 Gbps symmetric in Utqiagvik, Alaska — the northernmost US city, 320 miles above the Arctic Circle.
  • Starlink said bonded gateways can provide up to 20 Gbps symmetric service for remote and extreme environments, the report said.
  • Starlink Business Aviation plans recently doubled in price, with the Regional 25 GB plan rising to $4,000 a month from $2,000, according to published pricing details the outlet said were shared that week.
  • SpaceX has filed with the US Federal Communications Commission for a third-generation Starlink constellation of up to 100,000 satellites in very low Earth orbit.

Why it matters

For readers tracking satellite internet, the significance in the report is the direction of travel rather than a new consumer product. Yahoo Finance and Benzinga framed the 10 Gbps claim as part of Starlink’s move from selling household broadband towards selling high-capacity data capacity to companies, governments and AI-powered devices — the customer groups named in SpaceX’s own FCC filing.

The same report pairs that push with higher fees in one segment and with rivals closing in, which is the tension in the story: faster headline speeds arriving alongside a doubled price on at least one plan.

What Starlink said it measured

The evidence Musk pointed to was specific and remote. According to the report, Starlink said it had hit peak speeds of up to 10 Gbps symmetric in Utqiagvik, Alaska, which the outlet described as the northernmost city in the United States, 320 miles above the Arctic Circle. Musk’s own wording was broader: “Starlink can now provide reliable 10 Gbps symmetric send/receive connectivity anywhere in the world,” Yahoo Finance quoted him as posting.

Starlink also said bonded gateways can supply up to 20 Gbps symmetric service for remote and extreme environments, per the report. Gateways are the ground side of the network, and Starlink News has separately reported on a South African firm building Starlink ground stations in 14 African countries.

Prices doubling on Business Aviation

The price movement identified in the report sits at the premium end of Starlink’s line-up. Yahoo Finance and Benzinga said Starlink Business Aviation plans — the service sold for aircraft — recently doubled, citing published pricing details shared that week, with the Regional 25 GB plan going to $4,000 a month from $2,000.

No comparable change to residential pricing appears in the report. Subscriber economics are being watched closely in African markets: Starlink News has reported that Starlink Kenya reached 27,616 users and about 1% market share.

A 100,000-satellite filing

The speed claim lines up with SpaceX’s application to the FCC, the US communications regulator, for a third-generation constellation. The report says the plan seeks approval for up to 100,000 satellites in very low Earth orbit, designed to deliver ultra-low latency and multi-gigabit symmetrical throughput to companies, governments and AI-powered devices.

Hardware for the next generation is already flying: Starlink News has reported that Starship Flight 14 is targeted to carry 26 working Starlink V3 satellites on Starship Flight 14 on 28 September.

Competition is intensifying

Yahoo Finance and Benzinga said competition in satellite communications is intensifying, pointing to Rocket Lab Corp., the US launch and spacecraft company, agreeing to acquire Iridium Communications Inc. in an $8 billion deal. The outlet said the transaction would combine Rocket Lab’s launch and spacecraft operations with Iridium’s global satellite network, spectrum and recurring communications services.

What the report leaves open

The report does not say which Starlink plans or hardware the 10 Gbps figure is sold under, when the third-generation constellation might be approved or launched, or whether further price changes are planned beyond Business Aviation. It also carries no independent verification of the Utqiagvik measurement beyond Starlink’s own post and Musk’s X message. On the financial side, the outlet noted only that, according to Benzinga Edge Rankings, SpaceX stock does not show a favourable price trend in the short, medium or long term.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people use Starlink now?

Starlink has surpassed 12 million active users across more than 160 countries, according to the Yahoo Finance and Benzinga report. That is up from the 9 million users reported in 2025.

Is Starlink raising prices for home customers too?

The only increase named in the Yahoo Finance and Benzinga report is on Starlink Business Aviation plans, which the outlet said recently doubled. The report identifies no price change for residential Starlink customers.

How far along is Amazon’s rival satellite network?

Amazon revealed that it expects to begin initial internet service with its Leo broadband satellite network later this year, Yahoo Finance and Benzinga reported in July 2026. The outlet said Amazon’s latest launch at that point had pushed the constellation above 390 satellites.
