EasyJet will offer onboard wifi for the first time, fitting Starlink — the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX — across its fleet from 2027, the European budget airline said on Monday 26 October 2026. Installation begins in the first half of 2027 and is expected to be complete by early 2028, according to LBC and the Daily Mail.

In brief

  • Who: easyJet, one of Europe’s largest airlines, which carried 100 million passengers in 2025 and has never offered wifi onboard (LBC; Daily Mail).
  • What: Starlink’s high-speed satellite connectivity, with the service managed by Starlink.
  • When: rollout from the first half of 2027, completed by early 2028.
  • Aircraft: the Daily Mail names the A320, A320neo and A321neo.
  • Cost to passengers: not stated. Chief executive Kenton Jarvis did not say whether the wifi will be free or carry a charge, the Daily Mail reports.
  • Quote: “Fast, reliable connectivity from take-off to landing means people can work, stream or stay in touch without interruption,” said Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, in remarks reported by LBC.

Why it matters

Jarvis said the partnership would enhance the experience easyJet provides to millions of customers and means the airline is offering more of the options business and leisure travellers want when they choose who to fly with, in comments carried by both outlets. The Daily Mail says the move also aims to attract more business and leisure customers.

The announcement lands while carriers elsewhere are already using satellite wifi as a selling point. United has said free Starlink wifi is pulling fliers from rival carriers, and Singapore Airlines is fitting Starlink to 53 jets from early 2027.

Price, routes and aircraft: what easyJet has not said

Anyone searching for what easyJet’s Starlink wifi will cost, or when it reaches a particular route, will not find an answer in the announcement. The Daily Mail states plainly that Jarvis did not specify whether the service will be free or incur an additional charge, and neither outlet quotes a price, a per-flight or per-trip tariff, a data allowance, or a first route or base. The only hard commitment is the timeline.

The two reports also describe the fleet differently. The Daily Mail lists the A320, A320neo and A321neo; LBC refers to easyJet’s “A230 and A321” fleets. Airbus builds no A230, and easyJet’s single-aisle fleet is made up of A319, A320 and A321 family jets, so LBC’s “A230” is almost certainly a typo for A320. Read that way, the two accounts point at the same aircraft.

What easyJet says passengers will be able to do

According to the Daily Mail, passengers will be able to stream, game and browse on their own devices. The same report says travellers will be able to check flight status through the easyJet app and website and look up destination information such as local weather, transport or tourism details, and that the technology also unlocks the potential for customers to order from the inflight menu from their seats.

Ryanair, the rival that said no

The deal puts easyJet on the opposite side of the argument from its closest low-cost rival. LBC notes that the announcement follows a clash between Musk and Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary, who chose not to adopt Starlink for in-flight wifi on cost grounds. That leaves Europe’s two biggest budget carriers making opposite bets on whether passengers will choose a flight for its connectivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will easyJet’s Starlink wifi be free?

Unknown. The Daily Mail reports that chief executive Kenton Jarvis did not say whether the service will be free or carry an extra charge, and neither of the published reports gives a price or a data allowance. United, by contrast, has made its Starlink wifi free to passengers, as we reported last week.

Which easyJet routes get Starlink first?

Neither LBC nor the Daily Mail names a first route, base or aircraft to be fitted. The airline has given only a window: installation starting in the first half of 2027 and finishing by early 2028.

Why doesn’t Ryanair offer Starlink?

The Daily Mail says Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary branded Musk’s technology too expensive and said he would not introduce it on board. LBC reports Musk responded by calling O’Leary insufferable and an idiot. The Daily Mail dates the row to January; LBC places it only earlier this year.

Which other airlines already use Starlink?

United says its free Starlink service is winning passengers from rival carriers, and Singapore Airlines is fitting the system to 53 jets from early 2027. Both moves are covered in our earlier reporting.
